A former Super Eagles Captain John Mikel Obi expresses desire to rejoin Nigeria ahead of the 2026 world cup qualifier fixtures and the 2023 AFCONÂ npflupdates.com reports.

Mikel Obi was with the Super Eagles in 2013 they won its third African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) titles in South Africa. The former Lyn midfielder, was also part of the team that achieved a podium finish at the 2019 AFCON edition in Egypt before finally bowing out of the national team.

Mikel has been an integral part of Nigeria’s national teams, having featured for the Golden Eaglets (U-17), Flying Eagles (U-20), Olympics Eagles(U-23) before finally joining the Super Eagles. As a result, the former Chelsea man has an in-depth knowledge of the national team, and has expressed desire to be part of the backroom staff of the team.
Mikel Obi talks about rejoining the Super Eagles
Speaking a recent interview, said he will grab the opportunity of being in Super Eagles technical bench. Hence, he can be able to contribute towards the success of the team.
“Getting involved in a backroom role is something that I think I will love,” He said.
“The transformation from the pitch to the technical bench is something that fascinates me and if the opportunity comes from Nigeria I will be open to help play a part in the success of the team,” he concluded.
In another story, Napoli forward, Giacomo Raspadori, has said he’s not deputising Osimhen at the Italian club.
In Osimhen’s absence due to injury, Raspadori have stepped up his games helping Napoli win three and drawing one of the four matches played. Since the 23-year-old returned to Napoli’s starting XI, he’s scored three goals and had one assist in four games.
