Okocha Crowns Outstanding Osimhen King Of African Football

A former Bolton Wanderers Captain Jay Jay Okocha remains upbeat that Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen is the best candidate for the CAF Player Of The Year (POTY) award npflupdates.com reports.

Okocha who led Nigeria to two separate African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) tournaments confessed Osimhen’s consistency in the last one year.

CAF will be crowning a new Player Of The Year (POTY) on 11 December, 2023; and Osimhen was among the last five nominees for the award.

Osimhen was instrumental for Napoli last season, helping them win first Scudetto title in more than three decades. Also he finished as the Italian Serie A highest goalscorer; winning the Serie A best striker and foreign player of the 2022/2023 season.

The 26-year-old helped the Super Eagles of Nigeria qualify for the 2023 African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) tournament slated to hold in Ivory Coast. Importantly, he finished as the highest goalscorer (10 goals scored) during the qualifying fixtures.

“He (Osimhen) deserves it because for me, he was the most consistent player of last season,” remarked the former Paris Saint-Germain midfield maestro.

In another story, Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface has set his sights on the 2023 AFCON tournament.

The 22-year-old, in a recent interview said it will be a dream come true if he came make it to the AFCON with the Super Eagles.

“It is the dream of every football player from Nigeria to represent their country and win a trophy for the country,” Boniface told DW and was quoted by Daily Post Nigeria.

“So, we’re looking forward to the next AFCON.”
