Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro reveals he is already working towards restoring consistency in the national team’s goalkeeping department npflupdates.com reports.

The Super Eagles under the tutelage of Santos Peseiro has struggled to maintain consistency in its goalkeeping department; as first choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho is performing below expectations.

Uzoho’s inconsistency propelled Nigerians and other supporters of the Super Eagles to call for his immediate exclusion from the national team. His recent performances against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique where he howled a harmless free-kick into his own net sparked a wild call for his exclusion before the 2023 AFCON.

But coach Peseiro who is expected to lead the three-time African champions to Ivory Coast is confident that Uzoho and other goalies at his disposal are capable. And are also equal to the task of securing Nigeria’s goal.

The Portuguese stressed that goalkeepers who’s worked with him are not “comfortable” playing for Nigeria.

And during a meeting with Minister of Sports John Enoh in his office on Wednesday, Peseiro revealed talking to some(new) goalies he feel will be a good addition to his team.

Sports Minister John Enoh, told Jose Peseiro and the NFF hierarchy that visited him that “Our country is so passionate about football, such that amidst all other sports, football is about the only sport that has an entry in the nation’s national budget.”

And that “after 10 years, the country is thirsty to win the AFCON. It will matter a great deal to the Nigerian people, and the Government of President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,” Enoh said.

“It is important to not just leave the task to the NFF alone, but the Government is also interested in being able to tell the Nigerian people what is being done in that regard.”
