Super Falcons progress to the next round of WAFCON qualifier, NFF makes announcement

Popular online booking companies have slashed Super Falcons odds ahead of FIFA women’s World Cup Fixture against Republic of Ireland on Monday.

The Super Falcons last Thursday beat FIFA world cup co-host Australia, to go top of their group. And that’s the first time in the tournament’s history, that Nigeria’s female team will top a world cup group. But then, their winnings usually come with a lot of dedication and teamwork.

Despite being reduced to ten in their first fixture against Olympic champions Canada; the team battled to a goalless draw. And that many believed was their source of inspiration, as they came from behind to beat Australia.

Australia took the lead in the stoppage time of the first-half after capitalising on a space in the Nigeria’s box. But, a quick goal by Uchenna Kanu before the halftime whistle was blown restored parity.

Meanwhile, tactical substitutions by coach Randy Waldrum in the second-half helped changed the outcome of the game. As a stunning header by defender Osinachi Ohale gave Nigeria the lead. And a first reaction to a lose ball following miscommunication by Australian players saw Asisat Oshoala further extended Nigeria’s lead.
