Osimhen in pole position to win the CAF POTY award
Osimhen stands a chance of becoming the first Nigerian to win the award after Kanu Nwankwo won it in 1999.
Reacting to the nomination, NPFLUpdates in-house analyst Mr Best, said it’s huge glory for a Nigerian to be in contention.
“Over the years, Nigerian players hardly make the final list;- the closest to winning the award was John Mikel Obi about a decade ago,” he said.
“I’m rooting for him (Osimhen) to win it.”
In another story, a former Super Eagles forward, Julius Aghahowa threw his weights behind the Super Eagles.
In a recent interview with NAN, Aghahowa who was with Nigeria at the 2002 FIFA world cup tournament in Korea/Japan said Jose Peseiro has enough arsenal at his disposal to execute the 2023 AFCON.
“The players are in Europe which is easier because everybody is playing the same style, but coming to Africa to play and vie for major tournaments like World Cup qualifiers or AFCON, we are not going to have it easy,” Aghahowa said as quoted by Daily Post Nigeria.
“Our players need to have it at the back of their minds that it will be difficult to match and be well prepared. Once they sort that out, the rest will be history.

The players can do it, and I believe in them, but that commitment and resilience that the game is a must-win should be added to their mentality,” he said.
