In a recent publication by Goal the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach admitted the rare talents in the Super Eagles team. But he is of the opinion that talents alone without good tactics cannot execute the 2023 AFCON.
What Pitso Mosimane said about taking Super Eagles job
“They have a lot of talent; the likes of Samuel Chukwueze, the Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. But talent alone is not enough because if it was only about talent, they would have beaten Lesotho 7-0, but they drew with them. And pound for pound they would have also beaten Zimbabwe,” Pitso Mosimane said.
“So, the job of the coach is to bring confidence, stability, leadership, winning mentality and teamwork within the group,” he continued.
Speaking on if Nigeria would want to hire a coach of African extraction, Pitso publicly addressed he’d love to be with the three-time African champions.
“The Nigeria job is one I would consider, but it would also depend on whether they want the team to be led by an African? Because the only African coach they had was Stephen Keshi,” the former Al Ahly manager said.
“That is also a challenge because there have been a lot of white people on the job; whether we believe in our African coaches like Morocco, Senegal, Algeria and Egypt remains to be seen.
“I envy all those African coaches who were entrusted with the job and maybe take the level higher. But I don’t want to talk too much about the Nigerian job links because there is still a coach there and it’s important that I respect that.”

Meanwhile Jose Peseiro, still remains the Super Eagles head coach, and is expected to take the Super Eagles to the 34th edition of the AFCON.
The Portuguese per speculations is mandated by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to achieve a semi-final finish.
The super eagles of Nigeria, presently, lacks team play and tactical and football artistry they are dreaded for.
We need the likes of Mr. Clement Westerholf and late Stephen Keshy, leadership quality to revive the firebrand toughness and resilience we as a people are known for in every aspect of life.
It’s very painful to see the crops of world class talented players struggle in the field of play and making our adrenaline rise beyond control in watching.
Truly speaking, we need the right pegs in the right holes in every sphere of our existence, in order to experience our glorious past as a nation.
We are hoping and trusting for divine intervention to smile again.
