Remo Stars Brilliant Enough Technical Errors Cost Us CAFCL – Ogunmodede

Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has for the first time since after his side’s elimination from the CAF Champions League opened up on why he felt they were eliminated npflupdates.com reports.

Remo Stars suffered a shocking elimination from the 2023/2024 CAF Champions League at the hands of Medeama SC. The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), runners-up for the 2022/2023 season were eliminated from the preliminary rounds via a penalty shootout in Ikenne.

Remo Stars lost 1-0 in its first fixture away at Medeama; and had won the reverse the fixture 1-0 at their home ground in Ikenne, Ogun state. At full-time, it’s a 1-1 aggregate, and during penalty shootouts, the Sky-Blue boys failed to take advantage.

Meanwhile, the match officials for the game had disallowed a stoppage time goal by Remo Stars. Reasons for disallowing the goal wasn’t very clear to fans, but the officials cited a Remo Stars player was caught in an offside position.

Reacting to the loss, Coach Daniel, argued that it wasn’t his players’ fault they failed to qualify, rather it was as a result of technical errors.

Technical errors contributed to Remo Stars  CAFCL elimination

“Did we score the goals needed to qualify??. Yes, but these technical errors didn’t help us,” Daniel said while appearing on a Sports show NaijaMade and was quoted by sports commentator Mike.

According to Daniel, he hasn’t done enough for his side, and is not apportioning any blame to anybody.

“I haven’t done enough and I take all responsibility for our CAF competitions failures but for this year’s exit, I believe we qualified but never did in the real sense due to technical error.”

Speaking about the 2023/2024 NPFL season, Daniel is upbeat his side are the favourites to win the title.

According to him, “not winning the league will be a failure” because of their “trajectory in the last four years.”

Also, he spoke on the dire need of younger coaches in the league. Based on his opinion, you get coaches will contribute to the development of the NPFL.

“We need more of young coaches in the league to help improve on coaches education and that’s why I’m happy Coach Paul is coming in from the NNL,” football commentator Mike quoted Daniel.

“I can also bet you that if Coach Olumide of our Beyond Limits academy is giving a chance in the topflight, he will perform magic. We need more of these coaches,” he added.
