Recall, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), received applications from candidates who are interested in coaching the Super Eagles following the exit of José Peseiro.
Post Peseiro, the NFF opened up the position for potential candidates, outlining specific requirements for interested and qualified individuals.
Sunday Oliseh criticized this approach of publicly throwing open the coaching position. He cited Liverpool’s method in searching for a new coach following Jurgen Klopp’s announcement of his departure from the club in the summer.
What Sunday Oliseh said about the Super Eagles coaching job
Oliseh said to The Punch: “Let’s look at it this way: when Jurgen Klopp came out last month to announce that he was leaving his position as coach of Liverpool, did you hear or read anywhere that the club announced that coaches should apply for the job?
“The only thing they (Liverpool) are doing currently is that they are in search of a coach that fits their philosophy and style.”
According to Oliseh he did not apply for the Eagles coaching job, however, he threw his support behind two local coaches who are in contention Emmanuel Amuneke and Finidi George.
According to the former Juventus combative midfielder, Amuneke and Finidi possess the qualities necessary to lead the Eagles effectively.
“If we (Nigeria) cannot offer our indigenous coaches opportunities to help the country’s football, then who else will?” Oliseh questioned.
“I did not apply for the Eagles job. Reports that stated so are false. I only stated that if Nigeria needed my help as a coach, I would be willing to help if the conditions are right.
