Super Eagles : Another Top English Player Identify Nigeria As Next Destination

The Super Eagles of Nigeria following their performances at the recently concluded 2023 AFCON tournament is bound to witness an influx of abroad-born footballers; npflupdates.com reports.

The Super Eagles were spectacular at the 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) tournament; achieving a podium finish, and winning a silver medal.

The team was the only team with no losses at the tournament, as they go all the way to the final, losing shockingly to host nation Ivory Coast.

The outstanding performances of the three-time African champions, earned them a lift to the 28th spot in the world, and 3rd place in Africa on the latest FIFA ranking.

Luton town forward, Elijah Oluwatomi Oluwaferanmi Adebayo, in a recent interview expressed his desire to play for the Super Eagles.

According to the player, his mother would want him to switch his international allegiance to Nigeria. But of the English Three Lions were the first to approach him, he’d be left with no option than to represent the country of his birth.

“I would like to play for Nigeria,” Adebayo was quoted NPFLUpdates on Facebook .

“It would make my mum happy, make her proud. That’s something we’ve spoken about. Playing for England? It would be a case of whichever comes first. My mum would be proud if I played for Nigeria or England, but Nigeria especially.”

The 26-year-old will be an additional fire power to the Super Eagles attack which already boasts of Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Boniface, Terem Moffi, Paul Onuachu to name a few.

He’d also be the latest player to switch allegiance to Nigeria after the likes of Ademola Lookman, Chuba Akpom and Nathan Tella.

In another story, South African football legend Doctor Khumalo, remains confident the Bafana Bafana can beat Nigeria to the 2026 FIFA world cup ticket.

The Bafana Bafana legend has backed Hugo Broos and his team to find Nigeria a beatable opponent in the qualifiers.

“For them to qualify, let’s not dismantle it; it’s not yet broken, so let’s give Hugo support,” Khumalo says as per SABC News.

“Helman and the background staff and the boys, let’s allow them to continue the way they did in Ivory Coast.

“I would like to believe that Nigeria is in our group, but from what I have seen in Ivory Coast, I can bet all my money that SA can overcome that obstacle.”

Nigeria and South Africa will come up against each other later this year as they race towards a FIFA world cup ticket.

Recall the Super Eagles beat the Bafana Bafana on penalties to progress to the finals of the 2023 AFCON.

While South Africa finished with a bronze medal, Nigeria took home a silver medal.
