Super Eagles Captain To Quit International Duties After W’Cup Qualifiers Snub

Super Eagles Captains Ahmed Musa and his first assistant William Troost-Ekong were both snubbed from the world cup qualifier squad released by Jose Peseiro npflupdates.com reports.

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro, Thursday evening released a 23-man squad for this month’s 2026 FIFA world cup qualifier fixtures against the Crocodiles of Lesotho and Warriors of Zimbabwe.

Jose Santos Peseiro invited goalkeepers Francis Uzoho, Maduka Okoye, defenders Kenneth Omeruo and Olaoluwa Aina, midfielders Alex Iwobi and Frank Onyeka, and forwards Moses Simon, Kelechi Iheanacho and Taiwo Awoniyi among a list of 23 players for this month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against the Likuena Lesotho and Warriors of Zimbabwe.

Shockingly, Musa and William didn’t make the list; as a matter of fact, the two most experienced Super Eagles players were also not in action during the last international friendly test games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.

According to a publication by Nigeria’s media giant Owngoal Nigeria, Musa who’s a 2013 AFCON winner is considering to quit the national team after the 2023 edition of AFCON.

According to the publication, Musa would like to guide Nigeria to its fourth AFCON title, before throwing in the towel on his international career that started as far back as 2012.

In another story, Super Eagles eligible, Gift Orban has been voted as UEFA Europa Conference League Player Of The Week.

The 21-year-old beat Daniel Peretz (Maccabi Tel Aviv) Jason Svanthorsson (Breidalik) and Faris Moumbagna (Bodo/Glimt) to claim the award.
