Super Eagles May Begin FIFA World Cup Qualifier Without A Coach, Jose Peseiro Mum

Indigenous coaches are not tactical like foreign counterparts

Nigeria’s Super Eagles may just embark on their 2026 FIFA world cup qualifier matches without a head coach after the contract expiration of Jose Peseiro.

Peseiro’s one-year contract with the Super Eagles elapsed last June. And he is keen to renewing his contract with the national team, after helping them clinch the 2024 AFCON ticket.

Meanwhile, it’s been speculated that Peseiro who earns $70,000 salary is one of the highest paid coaches in Africa. And speculations have hinted that the NFF(Nigeria Football Federation) is looking to reduce his pay.

So, for Jose Peseiro to continue in his role as the coach and further lead the team in Ivory Coast, he may have to take a pay-cut.

Also some football pundits are agitated and have asked the NFF to be quick in the Jose Peseiro’s contract. And the NFF through its President Ibrahim Gusau, has confirmed talks are ongoing between the federation and the coach.

“His contract ended in July and we’re now talking to him and his lawyers,” Gusau was quoted by SCORE.

“We hope to conclude very soon and a decision will be made based on the recommendations of the technical committee.”

In a related scenario, Gusau also talked about the performances of the Super Falcons at the 2023 FIFA women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

According to him, the players will get their deserved prize money once it receives it from FIFA.

“It is only when we have the money that we can use it to pay such kind of payment, it is then that we can do it,” he said and was quoted by Vanguard.

“The prize money we are getting from FIFA, we can use it to pay any outstanding. And we can use it to pay the coach of the Super Falcons. That is what we will do and we will not have any problem,” he stressed.

Also speaking further, Gusau disclosed that some mischievous persons had wanted to instigate negative things in the team. But, then, he however appreciated God for the team’s unity and cohesiveness during their time in Australia for the world cup.

“But so many people are trying to instigate so many things, in order to divert their attention. In order to create a lot of distraction,” he continued.
