The African Football League (AFL) journey of Enyimba Football Club has come to end after losing to Wydad Casablanca Thursday evening npflupdates.com reports.
Enyimba on Thursday lost embarrassingly to African Football League opponent Wydad Casablanca, crashing out of the inaugural African Football League championship.
The Aba-based club approached the second leg with high hopes of overturning the first leg loss last weekend. But the former Botola Pro League champions dealt a big blow to the reigning Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions.

Playmaker El Amloud opened the scoring for the host four minutes into the game, throwing Enyimba players in disarray. And while the visitors were still trying to settle into the game, Harkass doubled the lead by firing into the roof of the net from a low-cross from the left flank.

Meanwhile, Enyimba’s Captain Ojo Olorunleke, had promised the NPFL outfit is in Morocco to get victory, and overturn its first leg defeat.
“We came here to achieve Victory,” the Super Eagles Goalkeeper told AFL media.
“We are ready and confident, and we have spoken together. We faced some difficulties and challenges before coming here. But we are a professional team and we can’t complain. We are here to win, and qualify.”
He added, “We want to defeat Wydad just as they did in the first leg.”

Two important things can be taken away from the two-legged tie which saw Enyimba accumulate four goals on aggregate.
First, the decay in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), where football clubs lack necessary and sensitive equipment for players development. It’s no longer news that most clubs playing in the NPFL do not have developmental teams(like reserve teams), lacked good and standard facilities and rehab facilities.
Most clubs in Nigeria play on artificial(synthetic) turfs, hence they find it difficult to thrive when then play on natural turfs.

Secondly, Enyimba as a team needs to work on the quality of players they recruit. Most players currently contracted at the Aba-based club, aren’t the best in the system at the moment. For perfect display in competitions as big as the AFL, the best players ought to be recruited, and utilised against foreign opponents.
It’s embarrassingly sad that the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), has only one representative in the ongoing different three(CAF Champions League, CAF Confederations Cup and African Football League) CAF competitions.
