2023 AFCON : Please Postpone Tournament, We’re Not Yet Ready – Super Eagles Fan Cries After Guinea Defeat

A concerned Super Eagles supporter is calling for the postponement of the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) tournament npflupdates.com reports.

The Super Eagles are hoping to win a fourth AFCON title after winning its last title a decade ago in South Africa.

But some fans of the national team are not convinced that the 25-man squad under the tutelage of Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro’s can win the cup of nations.

And this is coming after the team lost embarrassingly to another AFCON-bound team Guinea on Monday during an international friendly game.

Guinea recorded a morale-boosting 2-0 win against the Super Eagles in Abu Dhabi on Monday. Going into the game as the underdogs, the Guinea national team under the leadership of its captain Naby Keita stood strong, held their positions and stunner the Super Eagles.

Reacting to the result of the game, a Super Eagles supporter @Chava_snr via his X (formerly Twitter handle) cried that Nigeria isn’t ready for the mundial.

“Please postpone AFCON, we are not ready 😭😭”

NPFLUpdates in-house analyst Mr Best, remained upbeat that the Super Eagles is ready and can execute the upcoming tournament.

“This is just a friendly game; yes it’s important we win games as it boost’s the morale, but you can’t judge them based on the(Guinea) game,” he said.

“We all know l Nigeria has the quality and enough arsenals to execute even the world cup, so let’s wait and see what happens at the AFCON. Remember, even late coach Stephen Keshi didn’t start well before winning the title a decade ago.”

The Super Eagles will travel back to Nigeria on Tuesday where they’ll be hosted by Lagos State Governor His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu before departing for Abidjan on Wednesday.
