Nigeria President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will no longer be in Abidjan Cote d’Ivoire, to watch the Super Eagles play against Ivory Coast in the 2023 AFCON final; npflupdates.com reports.
Tinubu was expected to be at the Alassane Ouattara stadium Abidjan, on Sunday to cheer the Super Eagles as they charge towards a fourth AFCON title.

But in a statement on Saturday by Stanley Nkwocha, a senior special aide on media to Vice President Kashim Shettima and made available to TheCable, Tinubu assigned duties to Shettima. To lead a presidential delegation to the match between Nigeria and the hosts at the Olympic stadium Ebimpe, Abidjan, on Sunday.

According to the statement the president also called on Nigerians to support the Super Eagles in their quest to win the country’s fourth AFCON title.
“Recognising the unifying power of football and the immense role the Super Eagles play in fostering national pride and unity, the President, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, believes that Vice President Shettima’s presence at the finals alongside the delegation is a testament to the government’s unwavering support for the team and its dedication to their success,” the statement reads.
“The federal government calls on all Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to unite in support of the Super Eagles, and to raise their voices in encouragement, and create a wave of national pride that propels the team to glory.”

This is not to the fulfillment of a promise by Sports Minister Senator John Owan, who promised the Super Eagles through a zoom chat that the President will be in Abidjan to watch them live at a time he promised.
