Peseiro : Ivory Coast Are Favourites, But I Want To Win The 2023 AFCON For The Nigerian People

Super Eagles coach José Peseiro remains upbeat he want to help Nigeria win its fourth Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) title; npflupdates.com reports.

Peseiro will be leading Nigeria to its first ever AFCON final in over a decade; and he’s expected to employ his wealth of experience and win it for the three-time African champions.

Nigeria will exchange tackles with the host nation Ivory Coast on Sunday night. While Nigeria is seeking a title after testing victory in over a decade, Ivory Coast is seeking its first since after 2015.

Recall, Ivory Coast Survives elimination from the 2023 AFCON after finishing as the tournament’s best losers. The Akwaba Elephants have since then been winning matches, and are expected to make history by winning the championship.

Speaking to the media during a pre-match press conference, Peseiro admitted the host nation as the favourites.

According to the former Venezuela national team coach, he however wants to win the AFCON for the good people of Nigeria.

“Congratulations to Cote d’Ivoire for reaching the final, they are the favourite, but we want to win the AFCON,” Peseiro said.

Providing update on injured defender Zaidu Sanusi, Peseiro revealed a late fitness test will be conducted on the player later in the day. Until that is done, he wouldn’t give say much about the availability of the player for Sunday’s fixture.

“Sanusi Zaidu had condition training yesterday, we will have the last training session today and we will check him if he will be available,” the former Saudi Arabia national team coach said.

According to the former Al Nasr playmaker, there’s nothing special about the final game; but him and his teammates just have to be focused on the task ahead.

“There is nothing special about this game (the #TotalEnergiesAFCON2023    final). There will be pressure. But we just have to focus and play our game,” Musa was quoted by Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana.
