FIFA U-20 : No Excuse For Eagles, We Have Worse Turf In Nigeria – Player

Fans of the Flying Eagles of Nigeria decried the poor state of the turf of the main bowl at the Estadio Cuidad de La Plata during a FIFA U-20 W’Cup fixture between Nigeria and Brazil.

Brazil defeated Nigeria 2-0 to go top of the Group D amassing 6 points in three games. And that’s same as the Flying Eagles and Italy.

However, the Nigeria team finished third on the group table due for having a lower goal difference than their counterparts.

The turf of the Estadio Cuidad de La Plata, wasn’t very good, some parts is laid bare, with no grass. And it is also characterized by undulating surfaces, hence making it difficult for players to thrive.

And while making excuses for Nigeria, fans argued that the poor state of the turf is a factor that led to the team’s loss.

“And who’s even sure that FIFA  didn’t aid Brazil to beat Nigeria. Because, why change the team’s stadium for this fixture,” Bassey cries.

On the opposite, a grassroot footballer identifiable as Sir-P, rubbished the excuses. According to Sir-P, the Flying Eagles do not have any excuses for losing to Brazil.

And he buttressed his points by admitting Nigeria had worse stadia, but hey thrive.

FIFA U-20 loss, fans blame poor turf

“What happened to Nigeria is luck and lack of good tactics. Because, the field is bad, isn’t an excuse. And the players knows that as well,” Sir-P said.

“The players(Flying Eagles) paid for their carelessness, and nothing more. Because, how can you employ a tactics that allows quick attack by defenders who can’t make good use of their balls up front.”

He added, “And again, those saying it’s the turf, should keep quiet. Yes, the turf is not best. But even here in Nigerian, our turfs are not the best. Because if we had good turfs, how come CAF only approved one stadium for use during AFCON qualifier.”

Nigeria will likely get host nation Argentina or United States in the round of 16. But that will be they qualify as best losers.
