Football Has Left Our Indigenous Coaches Behind

Indigenous coaches are not tactical like foreign counterparts

A former Flying Eagles winger, Emmanuel Sarki has drawn media attention to himself for saying football has left our indigenous coaches behind, npflupdates reports.

The search for a replacement with an indigenous gaffer for Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro, has hit the rocks if Emmanuel Sarki’s assertion is something to go by.

The former U-17 international in an interview revealed that replacing Peseiro with an indigenous coach is not okay. He said the move will mean more harm than good to the national team.

The Super Eagles under new manager Jose Peseiro staggered during a double-header AFCON qualifier matches. It was an awful performance against the Wild Dogs of Guinea-Bissau.

Nigeria lost one and won one out of the ttwo-legged fixtures. The national team lost at home through a goal by Esperance Sportive Troyes Aube Champagne forward Mama Balde.

Balde scored a solo goal in the 29th minute to hand the visitors three points. The loss was Super Eagles’ four consecutive losses; their worst outing in many decades.

However, away at the Estadio 24 de Setembro stadium in Bissau, the Super Eagles returned to winning ways. A spot-kick by Nantes FC winger Moses Simon in the 30th minute handed them the three points.

According to Emma, the Portuguese will be better than any indigenous coach that may be hired in his position.

Foreign coaches better than Nigeria indigenous counterparts

“The problem with most indigenous coaches is that football has left them behind. We see how the U-23 crashed out of the race to be at the next month’s U-23 AFCON,” the former Flying Eagles player was quoted by OwngoalNigeria.

Taking a dig at indigenous coaches, the 35-year-old lucrative playmaker cried over the poor performances of Nigerian teams at Confederations of African Football(CAF) competitions.

“Look at our teams in the CAF tournaments under indigenous coaches. Peseiro to me over any indigenous coach unless we want to continue recycling those who failed the team,” he added.

Peseiro’s contract expires in June, it remains a doubt whether he will be relieved of his duties or not. A caveat in his contract highlighted that the former Sporting CP manager will be sacked if he fails to win the AFCON.
