Francis Uzoho committed a blunder leading to a goal in a friendly match against Saudi Arabia last Friday. The 24-year-old howled a harmless free-kick into the back of his net, giving the Asian giants the lead.
After the match he was heavily criticised by fans of the national team, who used all available media platforms to call for his immediate exclusion from the team. The Omonoia Nicosia shot-stopper, had canvasses for support during a post-match interview, where he admitted his mistakes.
“Generally it was a good game for us, but the result didn’t reflect our performance,” Francis Uzoho said ahead of the Super Eagles friendly against Mozambique.
Francis Uzoho controversially reply critics
“I should have done better with that situation (fumble that led to the goal from a free kick).
“We make mistakes, but we learn from our mistakes.

Speaking further, he highlighted some of the difficulties facing goalkeepers all over the world. “You can make 10 saves, control your area well, and one mistake, one can forget all that.”
He added, “We try our best to do well, the fans should keep supporting whoever is in goal, they could be more supportive.”
In the same manner, Super Eagles head coach defended the former Golden Eaglets Shot-stopper. The Portuguese stressed that goalkeepers are not comfortable playing for Nigeria because of incessant attack from supporters.
“When I arrived here, I remember I was told to change the goalkeeper. I spoke with all of them, No one feels comfortable because everybody attacked them,” Peseiro said.
“I like our players, when they make mistakes it is my responsibility.
“The goalkeepers never play free or calm because of the people. I don’t know why they attack the goalkeepers every time.
“Why don’t they attack the strikers when they lose the ball or miss a goal, why?”
The Portuguese added, “They could make mistakes, it is my responsibility. Next time I need to train him (Uzoho) better.”
Then on Monday, Uzoho was again started in goal for the international friendly game against Mozambique. And in the seventh minute, he made yet another costly mistake leading to the opening goal of the tie by Catamo.
