Guinea-Bissau Lucky, We’d Have Scored Five Goals

Indigenous coaches are not tactical like foreign counterparts

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has said AFCON qualifier opponent of Nigeria Guinea-Bissau were just lucky when they encountered Nigeria over two legs NPFLUpdates reports.

The 62-year-old saw his Super Eagles side lose one and won one of the two legged AFCON qualifier matches.

Last weekend the Super Eagles got stunned by the Wild Dogs of Guinea-Bissau at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja, through a first half goal by Mama Balde.

The Esperance Sportive Troyes Aube Champagne forward scored in the 29th minute to give the visitors the lead. He ran between Nigeria center-backs Kevin Akpoguma and Calvin Bassey, to slot into a charging Francis Uzoho’s goal.

Efforts by Nigeria side to restore parity proves abortive as the visitors held their positions. Goal-scoring chances were created in the second half by Nigeria, but the Djurtus stood their grounds to claim three points.

Away at the Estadio 24 de Setembro stadium in Bissau, the Super Eagles responded to the home defeat through a victory.

Nantes FC winger, Moses Simon scored in the 30th minute through a penalty-kick. He converted after defender Osayi-Bright Samuel was brought down in the box.

Victor Osimhen’s effort to double the Super Eagles’ goal lead hit the woodworks.

In a post-match press release, Peseiro confirmed that Guinea-Bissau was just lucky. He claimed his side would’ve won the two legs with a high amount of goals than what was obtained.

Guinea-Bissau was lucky we’d have scored 11 goals

“We could’ve won 6-1 in Abuja and 5-0 here in Bissau today(Monday 27 March,2023) because, we played better on Friday than today,” the former Sporting CP manager told the media and was quoted by SoccernetNigeria.

“But that’s football, sometimes you play better than your opponents, but the result will show otherwise.”

Speaking about Victor Osimhen he said, “Victor is best striker in Europe, but it happens(not to score a goal). He fights for the team, but he feels more pressure in national team than in Napoli. That is not good.”
