Mikel : Abramovich Wanted To Send Men After My Dad’s Kidnappers

A former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi reminisces on how former Chelsea owner and Russian Billionaire Roman Abramovich wanted to assist him in 2018 npflupdates.com reports.

Mikel Obi in a recent session with TalkSport reminisces on how his former club Chelsea wanted to help him during his trying times in 2018.

Few minutes to Super Eagles game at the 2018 FIFA world cup in Russia, it was reported that Mikel Obi’s father has been kidnapped. Obi would go on to still play for Nigeria despite his father being in captivity.

Mikel talks about Abramovich volunteered to help him in 2018

According to the former Flying Eagles midfielder, then Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich had wanted to assist him by sending some people “over” to help rescue his father.

“My dad got kidnapped while I was playing at the World Cup 2018 in Russia. […] Chelsea were very supportive,” Mikel said as quoted by Chelsea HQ on X.

“I remember Roman Abramovich saying, do you want me to send people over? Because I know if I send people over, I can get your dad out.”

In another story, Mikel has openly expressed interest in rejoining the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the 2023 AFCON and world cup qualifier fixtures.

According to the former Trabzonspor playmaker, to join the backroom staff of the three-time African champions will be an offer he will accept with open arms.

“Getting involved in a backroom role is something that I think I will love,” He said.

“The transformation from the pitch to the technical bench is something that fascinates me and if the opportunity comes from Nigeria I will be open to help play a part in the success of the team,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro, has said goalkeeper Maduka Okoye and defender Tyronne Ebuehi are still part of his plans ahead of the 34th edition of AFCON.

According to Peseiro, Okoye and Ebuehi are always part of the squad selected for matches, and as such stand a chance to play in Super Eagles tournaments.

“They belong to the group of players we follow and are part of the list of those we normally call.
