Odion Ighalo : Argentina Miss Is An Unpleasant Memory

Former Super Eagles’ forward, Odion Ighalo has confirmed the his miss against Argentina at the 2018 FIFA world cup tournament in Russia was an unpleasant memory.

According to Ighalo, Nigerians and Super Eagles supporters wanted to bury him alive. And that’s a memory he may never forget in his entire career.

In an interview session with Elegbete TV correspondent, closely monitored by NPFLUpdates, Ighalo confirmed he announced his international football retirement too early.

The 34-year-old striker announced his retirement from international football after the 2019 AFCON in Egypt. And at the tournament, he finished as the top scorer with five goals.

“I do not think about the national team conversation for now.

“You never can say ‘never’ because the last time I announced my retirement, it felt too soon,” Ighalo said.

“But now, I do not have a lot to say other than continue my club football and see how life goes.”

And this his assertion, sounds good to Super Eagles’ fans who have yearned for a quality, and experienced striker.

While addressing his Super Eagles’ worst moments, the former Manchester United man talked about the World Cup in Russia.

“The only downtime I remember was the game against Argentina at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where I missed a big chance, and the whole of Nigeria wanted to bury me alive,” he continued.

“Also, for the last world cup in Qatar, which Nigeria did not qualify for. I believed we had the tools and potential to qualify.

“We were playing at home(against Ghana) which was an advantage to us. And the stadium was crowded with fans. But due to unforeseen circumstances and selfish reasons, the world cup ticket was lost.

He added, “But that’s gone and we have to look forward.”
