Paul Offor : Sporting Lagos Excited, Anticipates Full NPFL Debut

Coach Paul Offor of Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL, newcomers, Sporting Lagos, has expressed excitement ahead of the club’s official league debut npflupdates.com reports.

Paul Offor was very instrumental in his managerial position at Sporting Lagos last season, helping the team earn promotion to the NPFL. And also went as far as helping the Lagos-based club win the Super Eight club friendly tournament few months ago.

Speaking ahead of the club’s first ever debut in the top flight, the gaffer admitted being excited; stressing that it’s a bid day in the club’s history.

“I’m excited. We worked really hard to be here. It’s a big day in the Club’s history and I’m happy we’re witnessing it,” he told Sporting Lagos’ official website on Monday morning.

Speaking about how he had allowed some players leave the club, the tactician confessed it’s always a difficult thing to allow players leave. Admittedly stressed that it’s also very important so that fresh players and of higher qualities can be introduced.

“As a manager, one of the most difficult parts of the job is telling players they don’t fit into your plans going forward. So it was hard to release players,” he said.

“But it was important we kept the key players, and we were able to. The next step was strengthening the squad.”

Speaking on what fans of the club will be expecting from the team on its debut game/season, he said they were “not burdening” themselves with any position before a ball is kicked.

“We’re in the league for the first time, and we have to respect the league. What we can promise is that we’re going to keep playing the exciting football we play. We’re also going to score more goals this season. And goals win games. We want to take it one game at a time and win the games in front of us. That’s our objective.”

Speaking about the club’s first opponent in the NPFL, Gombe United, coach Paul didn’t express fear, but admitted it won’t be an easy game.

“They’re(Gombe United) a very solid team. They played in the NPFL last season and we know that they’re well-coached. It’s an interesting way to start the league,” he added.
