Robert Mizo Delights First NPFL 2023/2024 Hat-trick

Bayelsa United forward Robert Mizo scored first NPFL 2023/23 Hat-trick.

Bayelsa United forward Robert Mizo is delighted for becoming first player to score a hat-trick at the ongoing 2023/2023 Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL, season, npflupdates.com reports.

Robert Mizo last weekend found the back of the net thrice in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State Capital, to help his Bayelsa United side cruise to a 5-3 win against former NPFL champions Akwa United.

In the NPFL Matchday 1 fixture, Mizo equalized twice for Bayelsa United before scoring their fourth, and completing his hat-trick minutes before the stoppage time.

The bullish striker, last season scored nine times, and helped the Restoration Boys avoid relegation to the Nigeria National League NNL.

Speaking to the media after the game, the 23-year-old gave God all the glory. Also, he applauded his teammates and coaches, stressing that he was excited to achieve such a feat in his first league game of the season.

“I’m grateful to God for the hat-trick, and also want to applaud my teammates and coaches. I’m overwhelmed finding the back of the net thrice in a single game, which happens to be the first game of the season. It can only be God,” Mizo told PUNCH Nigeria.

Recall, the forward was linked with a move away from the Samson Siasia stadium last transfer window. But the deal failed to see the light of the day, due to some undisclosed reasons.

Rivers United expressed interest in the youngster, but the striker says he’s fully committed to Bayelsa’s ambition this term.

“Well, I still have a contract with Bayelsa United and things didn’t go as planned during the summer transfer due to disagreement (in negotiations). So, I will still be here till whenever the time is right for me to leave or till my contract is over,” he retorted.
