Sadiq Umar : I Have No Competition With Osimhen

Nigerian forward, Sadiq Umar has revealed that there’s no competition between him and counterpart Victor Osimhen at the national team.

The striker confirmed this during an interactive session with Hindsight media outlet last weekend.

According to Sadiq, it’s a pleasure for him to represent Nigeria especially in the company of Victor Osimhen.

Sadiq, over time has played as a second choice striker for the Super Eagles, with Osimhen as first.

At the last AFCON, Sadiq Umar was a key player for the Austin Egueavoen led Super Eagles. And he scored one of the two goals that saw Nigeria beat the Wild Dogs of Guinea-Bissau. The win meant Nigeria qualified from group with maximum nine points from three games.

“You know, firstly, it’s always a pleasure playing for you to represent your country and with Victor [Osimhen]. I would say I do not see it as a competition. We are all going there to serve the nation. The country deserves the best,” the former UD Almeria player said.

According to the former AS Roma striker, the most important thing for the team to win. And not for the any personal gains.

“To be honest, whether I play or Victor plays, I am good with that. If you don’t win with someone, you have to join him to win, you know? Or you win with us, or you see us winning. So the best thing  is to join him [Victor Osimhen] to win together. So there’s no jealousy.” he said.

Sadiq has been out of action for more than three months after sustaining an injury last year. The strong-lanky striker shortly after moving to Real Sociedad from UD Almeria was injured during a La-Liga fixture against Getafe.

However, he has remained upbeat that his return will be better than what he was in the past. Hopefully, the 26-year-old will be available for the Super Eagles AFCON qualifier fixture against Sierra Leone in June.
