Ugochukwu : At Chelsea, I Want To Have Great Achievements Like Mikel Obi

Chelsea Midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, identifies the achievements on Super Eagles legend John Mikel Obi as his top priority at Chelsea npflupdates.com reports.

Ugochukwu signed for Chelsea from Stade Rennes last August, and is yet to establish himself as a starter at the club. The teenage playmaker confessed to the media about his admiration to former Chelsea man Mikel Obi.

According to the France Youth international, Mikel was an important player for Chelsea(during his time at the club), calm, well composed and full of confidence.

“Most of the time when I saw him(Mikel) on television was the period with Mourinho,” Ugochukwu was quoted by X user @MyBlueSeason

“It was a great period. He was such an important player for Chelsea. And when you come from Nigeria, the names of Jay-Jay Okocha and Obi Mikel always come out.”

Speaking further, Ugochukwu opened up on how much inspiration he drive from the achievements of Mikel at Chelsea. Mikel during his time with the London club, won a lot of titles including a UEFA Champions League title, an English Premier League title, an English FA Cup, a UEFA Europa League amongst others.

“As a midfielder, what Mikel did for Chelsea inspired me a lot. He was calm. He had composure. He had self-confidence. That’s very important for a midfielder, to give confidence to your team,” he comtinued.

“He was strong without the ball, aggressive. That’s the kind of player I like. I want to have great achievements like he did,” he added.

Ugochukwu is a cousin to a former Super Eagles defender Onyekachi Apam. Onyekachi was a player characterized by strength, agility, confidence and resilience; always ready to give his best at all times. Sadly, injury cut short his professional footballing career.
