Ebi will make history when she finally leads the Super Falcons from the dug out against Canada on Friday. And when it’s a thing of joy and excitement for the lucrative defender, many Nigerians have criticized her inclusion.
According to fans, the defender is old enough and should have retired from active football. Because she can’t cope with the kind of pace and tactics needed in modern football, where players play space games.
What was said about Super Falcons Captain ahead of FIFA World Cup
“Ebi is a hero, and nobody is taking that away from her. But for me, she’s not supposed to be in the national team as an active player. Maybe as an assistant coach, but to play in world’s biggest stage, I don’t think she can cope,” Mr Best said.
“However, since she has made the cut, that means she still has something serious to offer. And I believe the coach has his reasons for handing such opportunity. Of course, her experience will be utilized at the back.”
